Join me for a fun run! The 5k Diva Dash in Toronto June 10th 2018
A few years ago a group of amazing women got together to run the 10k Oasis zoo run. It was an ambitious goal for many (myself included). We met weekly to train and had so much fun as we prepared ourselves physically and mentally to meet our personal goals. This June marks my 40th birthday and to celebrate I thought it would be fun to get a group of us together and participate in a fun run. I was totally intrigued by a race that included pink tutus, feather boas, tiaras and shirtless hunks. What better way to kick off my birthday month then by spending the morning with some amazing people at Centre Island. If you are interested in joining me then I invite you to register ASAP. You can use the promo code FITMOM and save 10% off your race fees. I have also committed to organizing some group training runs to make sure we get off to a great start and stay injury free. Our group will meet weekly (Saturday mornings 9:30am & Monday evenings 7:15pm) and will gradually be adding time & distance following a walk/run program. This is a great way to learn the mechanics of HOW to run safely and to steadily build up endurance. This method of training is perfect for new runners or those who, like myself, have taken a hiatus from running but are ready to return to the sport again. If you are a member of our FITMOM Community you may have heard me say that running isn't always the best sport/activity that everyone should jump back into after a baby. Instability of joints postpartum & pelvic floor weakness can contribute to a less enjoyable activity for many, especially for those who are early in their postpartum recovery. So here's what I recommend. You should join me if:
- Your baby will be at least 6 months old by the time we start our group training runs in April
- Your pelvic floor has been assessed and you are cleared to resume high impact exercises like running
- Ideally you have 4-6 weeks of strength training (squats, lunges, body weighted exercises) before you start to run. This is not absolute, but having this base of strength & support will reduce injury and keep you strong! Our FITMOM Classes and Skype training can help you in this area!
- You have a desire to run, meet some really rad ladies and grow your personal network of phenomenal women
If you think that this is something you would like to do- then I would love to run with you!Got questions? Email me jennifer@fitmomdurham.com#jointhemotherhood #whichfitmomareyou #runningcouldbefun #runlikeadiva
