You might be surprised to find out that how you breathe has more of an impact on improving your core strength, function and appearance of your abdominal wall than the exercises you chose.
Pregnancy, sedentary lifestyle, posture and reduced range of motion/mobility in our day to day patterns also influence how we breathe.
When we are breathing well we are better able to manage the normal pressure that our body generates all the time. As rib expansion and thoracic mobility improves, because you are able to breathe into your sides and your back, not just your front, it offloads the amount of pressure from your tummy and disperses it around your entire abdominal canister.
As we improve our breathing mechanics and learn new strategies to include during exercise, you will notice a stronger and more responsive core.
Here is a simple breathing exercise you can begin to use to help feel your breath more in to the side and back of your body.

We offer Prenatal Fitness and Prenatal Yoga classes, on-demand from our virtual studio through a special series. Our 30 minute live, online Express classes include a Prenatal friendly Yoga class.
